One Year Old Rescused From Crib In Burning Lawrenceburg Apartment On Wednesday Posted on January 22, 2009
A one year old baby boy is in Vanderbilt hospital this morning after receiving severe burns in an apartment fire in Lawrenceburg yesterday. But the child is lucky to be alive. According to Assistant Fire Chief Steve Carter, the baby was rescued from his crib by a neighbor as the apartment burned. Carter said it appeared the one year old boy and his two brothers, ages two and three were playing with a heater in the upstairs apartment of their mother Sherry Mendosa on Kramer Street when the fire broke out. Neighbor Nicholas Moore, who was in a downstairs apartment was able to get the baby out of the fire. The mother had already gotten the two older boys out of the fire. When firemen arrived fire and smoke was pouring out of the upstairs window of the four unit complex. Assistant Chief Carter said the fire was knocked down quickly but the unit suffered serious smoke and water damage. The one year old was flown to Vanderbilt’s burn unit after being treated at Crockett Hospital. He had second and third degree burns to his face, chest and hands.
